What personal data we collect and why we collect it


To help combat spam, we collect and store visitor data from the comments form, as well as IP addresses and browser user agent strings.

Gravatar may use the anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) to determine if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: The public sees your profile picture in the context of your comment after it has been approved.


You should not upload images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) to the website. Images on the website can be downloaded and any location data extracted.

You can choose to opt-in to have your name, email address, and website saved in cookies when you leave a comment on our site. In order to save you from having to enter your information again whenever you leave another comment, these are for your convenience. One year is the shelf life of these cookies.

In order to determine if your browser accepts cookies, we will set a temporary cookie when you visit our login page. When you close your browser, this cookie is discarded and does not contain personal data.

Also, when you log in, we will set up several cookies to save your login information and screen display preferences. Cookies for logins and screen options last for two days. In the case of “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. Your login cookies will be deleted after you log out.

You will be prompted to save an additional cookie when editing or publishing an article. The cookie contains no personal information and only indicates which article you amended. One day after it is created, it expires.

It is possible to find embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.) on this site. Visitors behave as if they had visited the linked website when viewing embedded content from other websites.

You may be asked for information, provided cookies, embedded third-party tracking, and monitored when you interact with embedded content on these websites, including if you are logged in and have an account.

How long we retain your data

Comment metadata are retained indefinitely if you leave a comment. In this way, we will be able to recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically, rather than holding them in a moderation queue.

As part of their account profile, we also store the personal information that users provide when registering on our website (if they do so). User information can be seen, edited, or deleted at any time (except that usernames cannot be changed). Administrators of the website can also edit the information.

What rights you have over your data

You may request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us, if you have an account on this site or have left comments. You can also request that we erase any personal data we have about you. This excludes any data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
